This week the bill HR669 will go before congress. If passed, it will effectively ban all non-native pets in the United States. This means no more sales of girbils, hamsters, tropical birds, various snakes and lizards and tropical fish. The pet industry would be devistated. People who currently own such pets will be restricted from breeding them and selling them and banned from crossing state lines with there pets.If passed, i will renounce my citizenship of the USA and become a underground criminal because i dont intend on giving up my pets or giving up my hobby on breeding boa constrictors. What do you think about this insanity???Congress may vote to ban all non-native pets in the USA.
I think you need to get some new hobbies. >_>Congress may vote to ban all non-native pets in the USA.

Wow..wow...slow down there Jimmy...a bit drastic, dont-cha think? :P
That's quite stupid :| Good thing I live in Canada :P
Are they doing it to try and eliminate things like the Burmese python problem in Louisiana? Or they're trying not to have the same problems Australia has with rats, cane toads, and cats?
I can understand this logic to a certain extent, although I think banning all of these critters outright is a bit extreme.
What? Why? It's like they are trying to suck the happiness out of this world 1 day at a time... Can anyone find any good/right in this please? Because I just don't get it...
Well considering the large number of invasive species that we have I think it makes sense.
I think your Representatives probably don't read Gamespot OT. You should write them.
I think it makes sense because we don't need some animals escaping captivity and breeding, killing of or hurting the survivability of our native animals. I suspect this is because of all of the snakes that are hurting the wildlife in the southeast US now.
That's funny. Like something you'd hear on Weasel News.

I own a Burmese Python, several boa constictors and ball pythons and several types of lizards. I take great care of my pets and get much happiness from owning them. None have ever escaped...and if they did, they would die in the winter. There are NO invasive reptiles in the nothern parts of the country, Maybe there should be ownership laws in the southern states, licensing requirements and such, but not outright banning them.
Ehm, what about the movie industry? >_> This sounds kinda stupid.
typical government overreactionthey dont need to eliminate ALL non native petsthey just need to eliminate idiots being able to get them. In short, tighter restrictions, and actual licenses/classes required to own certain pets.

you can always spot people who don't follow politics very much.bills like these are introduced all the time. they never get passed in their original form, if they make it through at all.i would be surprised if this proposal didn't die on the floor. if it makes it through, it'll be only for extreme cases, such as dangerous animals (like, i dunno people that own a monkey that rips off their friend's face... stuff like that.)deep breath. it's gonna be okay.
I don't think that would work too well. I doubt it will get passed though.
That's ridiculous. There is no need for an outright ban of all non-native pets, just tighter restrictions to stop idiots from just walking into a pet store and buying a python which they more than likely will not be able to handle.
Do you have a link for a source?
I could only imagine a bill like this banning 'exotic' pets...Mostly stemming from the chimp attacks.
i donmt use these 'pets' but i think they should be legal to buy
