A lake with a 45-letter name

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30312971/?GT1=43001

''Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in Webster [MA] has one of the world's longest place names. It's been spelled many different ways over the years. Some locals have given up and simply call it Lake Webster.''

''There are many stories and legends about the origin of the Indian name. One popular myth - later debunked - holds that the name translates roughly to 'You fish on your side, I fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle.'''

I, for one, am still in shock that any place name could have that many letters. :shock:A lake with a 45-letter name
That's awesome, imagine explaining to your family where you're going on vacation :lol:A lake with a 45-letter name
I think the natives made up the word as a prank against white people.
Its name might be long, but it's pronounced ''Bob.''

It actually means ''one with great speech skills'' in Cargabaga. The legend goes if you can pronounce it, you get +1 reading.
I think the natives made up the word as a prank against white people.
Funny part is, it says in there most people just call it ''Lake Webster''. Ha, silly natives
lol They must have thought that lake was amazing if they gave it a name like that.

I see... I'll have to see what that's like. :P
When pronounced properly, you are actually saying ''I am actually took the time to learn to say this, therefore I have no life and deserve to be shot immediately,'' much to the amusement of the Indians.
tourism junk.
I live in Oxford which is right next to webster. Everyone just calls it webster lake, although my mother can actually say that huge name of gibberish.
